You’ll Get The Chills When You See This Abandoned Hotel In Pennsylvania

By David Clarke 2 min read

Hotels have been the setting of many horror movies in the past. Psycho, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and The Shining are just a few of the movies that have had horrible things happen at a hotel. It goes without saying that hotels can be a little creepy, especially if they happen to be abandoned.

While the Inn at Buck Hills in Pennsylvania used to be a happening spot with visitors coming from all over the country, that’s no longer the case. It used to be luxurious and majestic, but now it’s dilapidated and abandoned.

In its prime, the inn featured a large swimming pool, golf course, tennis courts, and numerous trails for horseback riding. All of this sat on approximately 1,000 acres of land that now is completely abandoned.

If you weren’t weirded out already, the photos and story of this hotel will be sure to give you the chills.

The inn had modest beginnings as it only had 18 rooms at first. Eventually, it expanded into a large resort that featured over 400 rooms. It’s no surprise how many people it could house as it looks immense from the exterior.

Guests commonly traveled from New York and Philadelphia to stay at the inn, and the surrounding beauty of the Pocono Mountains was a huge bonus. The location and amenities of the hotel allowed for countless outdoor activities for guests to occupy themselves with.

The hotel was at its busiest in the summer. The golf course, swimming pool, hiking and horse paths were some of the most popular activities.

While not as popular as the summer, the winter was still host to many guests as snowbirds would come to engage in snowmobiling, skiing, sledding, tobogganing, or just staying cozy within the inn. Helen Keller and Eleanor Roosevelt were some of the famous guests to grace the Inn at Buck Hills.

The rooms have obviously severely decayed since their glory days, but the size can still be appreciated.

The inn officially closed in 1991 after it had become a less popular destination. It remained untouched and forgotten until MTV produced a reality TV show in 2000 called Fear that featured the hotel.

The premise of the show was teenagers taking their cameras and searching for paranormal activity in the hotel. They perpetuated rumors that numerous murders and suicides had taken place in the past at the hotel which led to an ominous presence. Guests that remembered the Inn at Buck Falls for what it actually was were not pleased with this false story.

Despite its brief fame in the early 2000’s, the hotel remains abandoned today. It’s merely a memory of what it used to be when it was in its prime.  Rumors that the hotel is haunted persist while many still claim that the rumors are entirely false.

Whatever the truth is, it’s a sad story that this formerly glorious hotel is sitting completely unused. At least if you’re looking for a creepy adventure, you know where to go!
