A 4-year-old girl is dead after accidentally shooting herself with her grandmother’s gun.

Yanelly Zoller was just looking for a piece of candy when she found a gun sitting in her grandmother’s purse. The 4-year-old, who goes by Nelly, then pulled the trigger on the gun and tragically shot herself in the chest.

“She just wanted some damn candy,” Shane Zoller, Nelly’s father, told the Tampa Bay Times.

Zoller learned of the accident when he was on his way to pick up his daughter. Police cars were surrounding the area when he arrived at the house.

“She was extremely close to them and would get so excited when she got to stay at her nana’s house,” Shane Zoller told the Tampa Bay Times. “She was attached to her nana’s hip.”

The incident is currently under investigation, although the cops are sticking to the grandparents’ account. Both grandparents were home at the time of the accident.

In order to help with funds for the funeral, a YouCaring and a GoFundMe page have been set up. The 4-year-old has been laid to rest, yet the family has not been able to pay for the expenses needed for the burial.

The family hopes it can use the donations to provide a proper headstone for its 4-year-old.

“Heaven gained a beautiful angel. So many broken hearts who are waiting to be told this is all one big nightmare,” Judy Cornett, organizer of the YouCaring page, wrote. “She was full of life, laughter and [adventure]. She has a sparkle in her eye that would light up a room.”

Cornett ended her message with a heartfelt reminder for parents to always show love for their children.

“Please love your children … please let them know you love them, and never go to bed without giving them their little kisses and there [sic] hugs because you never know when it’ll be the last time you’ll say goodnight,” Cornett wrote on YouCaring.

Hopefully this teaches other families a lesson so they never have to experience a tragedy like this one.
