Tesla Has Finally Begun Production on Their Solar Roof Panels

Tesla is changing the solar panel game by officially starting to manufacture their solar roof panels.

Tesla formally started production on their solar roof panels in their Buffalo, New York, factory during late December. The luxury energy company has begun surveying the homes of people who pre-ordered the innovative product with a $1,000 deposit last May.

Tesla hopes their solar roof panels will reduce the need for traditional solar roof panels. The state-of-the-art roof will “cost between 10 and 15 percent less than an ordinary new roof plus traditional solar panels.”

Tesla has fashioned the new solar panels to have a more traditional look. The solar panels will give each house a sleek look, getting rid of the bulky design for which solar panels are known.

Not only will the panels be environmentally friendly, but they also will save a family a significant amount of money. The panels will have a lifespan of about 30 years.

“With tax credits and the value of energy over 30 years, factoring in the cost of a Powerwall battery, the roof could net a positive $8,000 over its lifetime,” Tesla explained using a typical home in Maryland as an example.

While the highly anticipated titles have started production, Tesla has not released an official date regarding installation.
