The Parallel Forest In Oklahoma Is Seriously Creepy And Might Just Be Haunted

We rarely associate beautiful mountains, waterfalls, and forests with being haunted, but if history has taught us anything it seems that almost anything can be haunted or at least appear to be haunted. While old mansions and cemeteries seem to be the common choice for supernatural activity in films and entertainment, the reality is that the paranormal can exist in locations we least expect.

If you’ve ever been to Oklahoma, you know that there are some truly beautiful spots there. The Wichita Mountains, for example, have some incredible scenery including a variety of wildlife, waterfalls, and a great terrain for hiking. There’s one place near the mountains that many people wouldn’t know of or choose to go to if they did, and that’s The Parallel Forest.

The Parallel Forest was literally a government built experiment, and we all know from movies and TV that anything starting with the words “government experiment” never ends up going well.

The forest was built as a method of dealing with the effects of the Dust Bowl. Most forests are naturally chaotic with trees and foliage spread out erratically, but not this one. There are more than 20,000 red cedars in total, and they were all methodically planted exactly 6 feet apart in each direction. The total forest spans roughly 16 acres.

With each spooky place comes its own strange rumors, and The Parallel Forest has plenty. The rumors range from hauntings, satanic rituals, legends of monsters, and everything else people’s imaginations could conjure.

Take a virtual journey through this creepy forest by going through the pictures below.

Forest1

To find The Parallel Forest, simply take the Oklahoma State Route 115 through the Wichita Mountains, and look for the cedars. You can’t miss them!

Walking through the forest, you’ll notice that each tree is spaced 6 feet apart on every side. The government planned it this way so that the trees would grow straight up instead of out. It’s eerie to see a forest so perfectly parallel.

All of the cedar trees block much of the sunlight out, so there’s often a gloomy atmosphere to the forest. Obviously, that only serves to contribute to the creepy vibe.

Fueling the rumors of satanic rituals being performed in the forest, there’s a formation of rocks in the center of the forest that resembles an altar.  The origins and purpose remain a mystery, so people have come up with what they think it’s used for. Many visitors claim to be overcome with strange feelings when they’re near the altar.

Not only do people claim the center of the forest is haunted, but the rest of it as well. Visitors say they’ve seen an assortment of ghosts, orbs, and the like along with hearing a variety of strange noises. Supernatural or perhaps other government experiments?

Forest5

As organized as the forest is, it’s still incredibly easy to get lost. You’ll want to make sure you keep a firm awareness of your surroundings because this is one forest you likely won’t want to get lost in.

Do you think The Parallel Forest is haunted, or simply a creepy looking forest? Would you visit it? Let us know in the comments below!
