‘Uninhabitable’ 1887 House Is Lovingly Restored To Its Former Glory

By David Clarke 2 min read

Just like with anything, father time always wins. We all get old, our technology becomes out of date and our world changes right before our eyes. This notion also reigns true for our homes and other buildings.

What was once an extravagant mansion can be reduced to nothing but an old, ratty looking piece of rubble. Without upkeep, nature begins to take its course and the results aren’t often very pretty to look at. And that is exactly the state the home that this article focuses on was in.

In its heyday, this home (built in 1887) was without a doubt a showstopper. But now recently, this home (which sits in York, PA) is a crumbled and dusty mess, a shell of what it once was. The five bedroom, three bathroom mansion built in the style of Queen Anne, has definitely seen better days.

And sadly, the house had basically been deemed uninhabitable and with no one owning it, it very well could have been knocked down and deemed a total loss, if it wasn’t for one person. Someone saw the vast amounts of potential in the home and gave it one of the best makeovers you will ever see a house get.

After many hours of work to refresh the home, this is what it looks like today. It doesn’t even look like the same house at all. And while the outside of the home is beautiful and inviting with its warm colors, the inside of the place takes it to a whole different level.

The new owners did their best to salvage all they could from the house, and then replace all they couldn’t. The floors of the updated home are composed of five different kinds of wood, and the massive amount of windows give the home a ton of natural light.

Each room is absolutely full of charming furniture and accessories, which give the house a ton of character. And while the place is indeed newly upgraded, the owners wanted to stay true to the roots and decorated each room carefully, making sure to be true to its history and give it some charm in the process.

The place also has a number of useful rooms such as a study, a hobby room, and a ton more space that can be used for whatever you deem fit.

Each of the five bedrooms has their own unique style and makes perfect sense because the home is actually a licensed bed and breakfast. Of course, there is no reason it couldn’t one day be called home by a family as well.

This gorgeous home is a prime example of not judging a book by its cover. Only recently, the home was a beat down pile of rubble, but with a bit of determination and a keen eye for potential, it transformed into a home that is actually on sale for $350,000. Not bad for a house that went unnoticed for year after year.
