Throughout the world and even the USA, there are a number of amazingly cool beaches to explore and relax on. However, one beach might just stick out above the rest as the coolest. And no, this beach isn’t in California, Florida or anywhere else you would expect for that matter.
The beach that this article will take a deeper look at is actually located in Connecticut. The beach goes by the name Pleasure Beach and it has a history that dates back over a hundred years old. And not only is the place legendary, but it wasn’t even a beach when it was first opened to the public.
The Pleasure Beach, as it is now known, is located in Bridgeport Connecticut and was originally founded in 1892. And in fact, it wasn’t even a beach at that point, it was an amusement park. Those families who were looking for a day full of fun could take a ferry across the Lewis Gut to a place that was full of fun.
The amusement park was actually designed as a way to keep tourism in the state and give people of the state a place to go to get away and have some fun without having to go to other states for their amusement. The park had it all from roller coasters to carnival games and even a brilliant carousel.
After a successful few years and decades of running, the park was actually purchased by the town of Bridgeport itself in 1937. Unfortunately, though, the park only lasted a little while longer before going bankrupt in the mid-1960’s. As a result, the location where the fun amusement park used to be was now a frequent meeting spot for drug users and was covered in graffiti.
But even though the place was a shell of its former self, people continued to visit the beach there. The biggest attractions for these people was the extremely soft sand on the beach and the long and well-lit boardwalk which made for great walks.
Over the next few years, the beach went through a variety of different ups and downs. In 1996, a fire destroyed the bridge to the mainland and thus caused a number of the cottages and cabins that were built near the beach to become abandoned. Technically, this place became the biggest ghost town in the state because you would either have to hike or catch a boat there.
At this point, there were even some of the buildings from the original amusement park still up, but some have since been taken down. But as of 2014, tourism is ramping back up into the area as water taxis were purchased which can easily bring people to and from this amazing beach.
The vandalized areas have been restored to the previous glory and the place has been cleaned up a lot and is once again a nice and peaceful place to go for a walk, enjoy the scenery and hit the water for some fun!
