Cattlemen’s Steakhouse in Oklahoma City is the longest running restaurant in the entire state of Oklahoma. That’s not even the most interesting part of the restaurant’s history! From delicious steaks to mouth-watering desserts, this restaurant is still popular today for its rich history and tasty menu.

Restaurant2

The restaurant opened in 1910 and was originally a place for ranchers, cowboys, and cattle haulers to go and have a hearty meal after a long day of work. The district the restaurant sits in is Stockyard City and has a long history of meat business. It was home to major meat processors and earned its name as the “packing town.”

Cattleman’s stayed open even after dark, in the late hours when illegal activity began. The restaurant was known for serving up alcoholic drinks when it was illegal during the prohibition.

Not many changes have taken place over its years, with a rich history and many past experiences that travellers enjoy sharing on the historic bar stools.

Restaurant5

Cattleman’s real historic twist came in 1945 over a small gamble. The original owner was in a gambling game all night and found himself quickly running out of money. In a last ditch effort, he offered up the bar in a game of dice. Another man won by rolling two dice, both landing on 3. This was known as a “hard six,” something that’s a once in a lifetime chance of actually landing on. The Cattleman’s Steakhouse found itself a new owner that night.

Restaurant6

Everything on the menu is known as being extraordinarily delicious, from the juicy steaks to the homemade pie. If you ever find yourself in Cattleman’s, you’ll even be able to understand the significance of the “33” pictured throughout the restaurant.
