FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., June 26, 2017 /PRNewswire/ — For the fifth consecutive year, Debbie’s Dream Foundation: Curing Stomach Cancer (DDF) advocates were on Capitol Hill as part of DDF’s Annual Advocacy Day to ask members of Congress to support an increased federal investment for stomach cancer research funding and to again include stomach cancer in the Peer Reviewed Cancer Research Program (PRCRP). As a direct result of DDF’s advocacy, stomach cancer is one of 13 topic areas eligible for research funding for FY 2017 through the Department of Defense’s Office of Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs (CDMRP). The CDMRP has now announced Fiscal Year (FY) 2017 funding opportunities for the PRCRP. DDF strongly encourages stomach cancer researchers to apply for PRCRP grants.

The PRCRP award mechanisms include a Career Development Award, an Idea Award with Special Focus, and a Translational Team Science Award. The Career Development Award mechanism requires a pre-proposal submission by September 12, 2017 and the Idea Award with Special Focus and Transitional Team Science Award by June 30, 2017. Pre-proposals will be reviewed and then selected applicants will be invited to submit a full application, which is due by September 28, 2017. More information about the PRCRP can be found at http://cdmrp.army.mil/funding/prcrp.

The PRCRP is tasked with funding innovative basic, applied, and translational research that will support service members, their families, and the American public. The mission of the PRCRP is to successfully promote high impact research, and their vision is to improve the quality of life by decreasing the impact of cancer. More information about DDF and its upcoming Advocacy Day event on February 26-27, 2018 can be found at www.DebbiesDream.org.
