Atlanta Gym Owner Sparks Outrage With Controversial ‘No Cops’ Rule

A gym in Atlanta has been making waves across the internet after a controversial gym sign went viral. The EAV Barbell Club in East Atlanta prominently displayed a sign on the front door, stating “No f—–g cops.” Despite receiving death threats, owner Jim Chambers is sticking by his cop ban.

“We’ve had an explicitly stated ‘No cop’ policy since we opened,” Chambers told WXIA-TV. “We also don’t open membership to active members of the military.”

“Do whatever the f–k you want, correctly, except Crossfit cultism. No f—–g cops,” the sign read.

The controversial gym sign was eventually taken down due to foul language, but according to Chambers, the ban that has been in place since the gym’s opening in 2016 will remain.

“It was really just the vulgarity in that sign and that seems to bring it out for people. I don’t want the other folks there to take the heat that I’m willing to take.”

As for why Chambers put the ban in place to begin with, Chambers states that it is for the comfort of his members. Chambers stated that the members of his gym are by and large minorities that are “uncomfortable with the presence of law enforcement.”

“We wanted one space that was just a little different. It’s not an aggressive, hetero-jock space that’s dominated by cops and soldiers,” Chambers said. “It’s a place where you’re safe from that.”

The Atlanta Police Department responded to the viral sign by stating that this will not affect the way they do their jobs.

“Were we to respond to an emergency there, this sign would not stop us from lawfully doing our job,” the department said to WXIA.

Chambers stated that they have never needed, nor will they ever need, police assistance.
