Colorado Mine Ride Turns Back the Clock

If you grew up in Colorado or know anything about the history of the state, you must know about the extremely profitable mining industry of the state. For many many years, people gathered in this state to search for their fortune by digging through rocks and dirt in search of gold. Fun fact, the Denver Nuggets sports team actually got its name from the state’s mining past.

The gold mining trade in the area dates back to 1858 and was hugely important in establishing Colorado as a state. The mining continued for a long while and millions of dollars were made by people who decided to come and give it a try.

And while you can’t go back in time and join the miners, but you CAN take a tour inside a historic gold mine located near Silverton. This mine appears inside the Galena mountain and takes visitors on a tour of a gold mind they would never be able to see otherwise.

The tour is called the Old Hundred Gold Mine tour and takes you ⅓ of a mile inside a mountain and shows you what it was like back in the day when the gold mine was going on. During the tour, you see walls full of precious metals, old and vintage mining equipment and much more.

But not only do you get to see it and experience it, you actually get to try it yourself. That’s right, this amazing tour actually allows you to pan for gold and they actually let you keep whatever you may find.

This amazing ride is available between May and October between the hours of 10 AM to 4 PM and is under $20 to do, very worth it in my mind. Below you can see a video that shows you more about this very cool and interesting tour.
