This Castle In North Carolina Will Take You Into a Fairy Tale

By David Clarke 2 min read

Normally, if you want to head to a land with fairy tale castles, you often have to travel across the Atlantic Ocean to Europe. Europe has a deep history of castles that have been around for centuries and centuries. But did you know there are actually some amazing castles in the USA?

And not only in some of the bigger and historic states, but they can appear all over the country. And in fact, one of the best and biggest castles in all the country is located in North Carolina. And while North Dakota really isn’t known as the land of castles and fairy tales, it is definitely home to one absolutely amazing one.

This is because the same man that built the amazing and mesmerizing Enchanted Highway in North Dakota also built an amazing castle right in North Carolina. But not only is this a castle to come and take a tour through, the castle actually serves as a hotel where guest can come and stay. While the idea may seem a little different, it is most definitely one of the coolest and most unique places out there.

The man transformed an old school into this new castle-themed hotel. And as soon as you walk up to it, you would have absolutely zero idea that it used to be a school. The high brick walls and turrets immediately scream castle, not learning institution. And not only that, what would a castle be without a drawbridge. And don’t worry, it’s not only there for decoration as this drawbridge is actually fully functional and goes up and down.

But the castle feel isn’t only on the outside, you get the same feel and vibe all throughout the building. For example, there are armored knights all throughout the castle and they look simply amazing. In addition to this, it has dozens and dozens of other decor and designs that take you right back in time to the Medieval Era.

And not only does the hotel look cool, it also has a ton of features. And while they decor may look ancient, the amenities definitely are not. The hotel has very spacious rooms, a gym, a gymnasium, a pool and even a hot tub for your relaxation. And if you get hungry or thirsty, don’t fear, as the hotel has both a steakhouse and a tavern right on location.

And don’t worry, both the steakhouse (which is amazingly called Excalibur’s Steakhouse, by the way) and the tavern also keep up the theme of the fairy tale. The restaurant also serves anything from delicious and hearty steaks to tasty and decadent cakes.

And when you are ready for sleep, you can lay yourself down on a luxurious bed that is fit for a king. The man behind the castle, Gary, is a true genius when it comes to his creativity. What was once an empty school is now an amazing castle and one of the coolest hotels in the country.
