When a Carefree Day In The Woods Turns Into The Spookiest Day of Your Life

The next time you decide to go hiking in Northern Germany, watch out for pipes that look like this:

When some friends ran into these pipes in the former German Democratic Republic, they were not discouraged from checking out the creepy looking pipes, rather they decided to investigate further.

So explore they did. And they took many photos of what they saw.

Pipe2

First, after finding a large concrete entrance, they had to remove a wooden lid, which they did with a crowbar.

Pipe3

This is a photo of what the entrance looked like from the inside.  Thankfully the lock was broken, so they weren’t afraid of being locked in. Either way, the iron door is a little threatening on it’s own. When you add in the peeling, chipped paint on the walls and debris on the steps, it’s safe to say that this was going to be a disturbing discovery.

As they began walking, they saw nothing except medical type hallways: long, empty, and abandoned. The friends decided to keep straight so as not to get lost, though there were many other hallways and off shoots.

Pipe4

They came upon this tiny room on the left. The small hole in the ground was filled with dirty water. Perhaps it could have been a bathroom at one point?

Shortly after that, they came upon another narrow opening. Bricks lying all over the ground in a heap and graffiti all along the walls told the friends that they must not have been the first ones to visit.

Pipe5

Following the original hallway, which began to twist and turn slightly. This is where the friends second-guessed their decision to continue on. They had gotten too far to go back now, right? Plus, this is when it gets even more chilling.

The graffiti on the left translates to “help!”

Pipe6

Suddenly they saw a huge, pale yellow door. They looked heavy, like vault doors.

Pipe7

This rounded door has writing on it and you can see it was numbered.

Pipe8

These red pipes were seen throughout the complex. It seems like they were probably used for some kind of ventilation.

Pipe9

The friends continued to explore further and further into this decayed, spine-chilling complex. They passed several heavy vault-like doors until finally, they got to some other interesting rooms. You can see in this photo just how many of those huge, heavy doors there were.

Pipe10

As you can see here, the graffiti read, “Hallo Satan I love you.” Of course, that is the last thing you want to read when you are in the middle of an abandoned, underground mystery complex.

Pipe11

As they got deeper and deeper into the facility, it became even more damp and rotten with inches of standing water on many of the floors.

Once they began their long trek back through the tunnels, they spied this very large room.

Pipe12

Though they never could find their way inside, they were able to take photos of the room through small openings in the concrete wall. The large object in the corner looks like a furnace or something of that kind. They even found gloves and an old boot left behind from so long ago.

Pipe14

One of the last photos they took was some kind of space with a round door, resembling a safe or something similar.

Pipe15

Though it’s not especially clear what this complex was used for, we do know that in WWII, Germans built many underground factories used for machining weapons. Perhaps it was a German-made factory that was repurposed by Russians at a later date. Either way, as one of the friends states, “…it was the spookiest trip of my life.”

I think we can all agree with that.
