The forest can be a beautiful and simultaneously terrifying place. While there’s nothing better than hiking through the woods and enjoying the incredible natural wonders at hand, there are times where a dark and lonely forest can be a scary place. Besides the possibility of bears and other wild animals, there’s also a chance it might just be haunted…

Talking about freaky forests, could there be a scarier name for a forest than the Black Forest? That’s the forest northeast of Colorado Springs that has everyone talking. While its quaint, picturesque setting will have you imagining a beautifully wooded small mountain town, there’s a dark side to this forest.

Black Forest’s reputation is scarred by some truly terrifying legends that have the 14,000 locals petrified. It all began in 1991, and you should keep reading if you want to learn the crazy things that happened here!

Steve and Beth Lee purchased a lovely but secluded cabin in 1991 that they’d previously been renting. A short time after buying the house, the couple was plagued by terrifying occurrences. In the middle of the night, they would hear indescribable noises, including noises similar to an orchestra, moving chains, footsteps, and more. Besides the noises, they also frequently saw flashing light surrounding the house and smelt chemical-like fumes that were extremely strong.

The couple went so far as to purchase a state-of-the-art security system and further drain their savings by hiring a private investigator, but it was all to no avail. They couldn’t figure out the source of these weird occurrences. Eventually, they reached out to Sightings, a television show that specialized in determining the cause of strange incidents. Fortunately for the couple, Sightings took the case.

Sightings employ a number of “ghostbusters,” and upon their arrival, they determined that there were multiple ghosts living in the home that seemed to think they owned the house. A number of weird incidents occurred while the professionals were there, including sightings of shadows and orbs, a camera being knocked off its tripod, and odd thumping noises throughout the house.

Producers from the show returned to the house six months later, and they determined the origin of these ghosts. One they claimed was the dead son of the couple’s friends and that his name was Howard. The experts believed he came back to tell his father that he died of murder, not of a drug overdose as originally suspected.

Sightings also determined that the closet in the couple’s bedroom was acting as some kind of vortex to another dimension. Another extraordinary discovery was that a 100-year-old mirror in the house seemed to show the faces of whoever was using the vortex.
