This Ancient Marvel In North Carolina Is Shrouded In Mystery

There are many unanswered questions in life. It’s always the big questions too. What is the meaning of it all? Are we alone in the universe? How was Stonehenge erected? The usual suspects.

Much like the mystery that is Stonehenge, there is a very mysterious rock structure in North Carolina whose origins baffle those try to solve the mystery. Ladies and gentlemen, this is Judaculla Rock.

There is no defined origin for this piece of sacred Cherokee history. There are only stories and myths about where it came from and what exactly it means. What we do know is that the rock is said to out date the Cherokee culture with its mysterious carvings, writings, and drawings.

According to archaeologists, the rock dates back nearly 3,000 years.

The name Judaculla comes from the Cherokee culture and is the name of a giant who was said to stalk the land before the Native Americans arrived. Judaculla was believed to be over seven feet tall, with 14 fingers and toes, and slanted eyes. In fact, his name roughly translates to, “he has them slanting.”

There are a few theories as to what exactly Judaculla was doing with the rocks. One story says he would jump from rock to rock, leaving imprints behind. Another says he would use the pictures on the rocks as a hunting guide for himself and other inhabitants.

As they mystery of Judaculla Rock has grown in North Carolina, so has the overall interest in where it came from and what it all means.

The rock has become a hotspot for travelers looking to perform spiritual ceremonies around the sacred site. Some, like a number of Western Carolina students who perform initiations at the rock, take it far less seriously.

Of course, Judaculla Rock is only one part of a much stranger and more mysterious history in North Carolina. A number of other statues and rocks with carvings have been found in nearby caves. These are said to belong to the “moon-eyed people,” a group of nocturnal humans who lived in caves and would come out to hunt at night.
